The Grand Poobah's Bribefest

This last week I searched for a job.

I currently have two companies that seem to be on the verge of writing me an offer. Honestly I would be happy if either one of them gave me an offer, but I haven't yet decided on what to do if both of them give me one. I like both companies, and I don't want to offend either of them (both know about how far along I am in the process with the other company, so I doubt that either would be surprised to hear that I got an offer from the other), but I haven't yet gotten any clear indicators as to who to go with in case of a double offer.

The opposite problem is obviously far worse: not getting an offer from either of them. It is not that we don't have enough money to survive without me finding a job immediately, it is just that I find job hunting to be exhausting, and I like making a contribution to some worthy cause.

Speaking of worthy causes, Saturday, February 16th is SaltCon. I have made an offer to anyone who has playtested my games that I will pay $10 to them if they attend SaltCon on Satuday and play a game or two of Dancing Robots or Polynesia with me at the conference. It costs $20 to get in (though Scott said that he found a groupon for a $10 ticket). Either way, I will greatly discount your admittance if you are already one of my playtesters and you want to come.

We made a new derby on Saturday. It was a bit cold during the derbying process, other than that it went well, and we seemed to get a lot of curds compared to our first goat derby. The cheese is now drying, and will be eaten in 4 months or so (we might eat it sooner - Alison likes milder cheeses than I do, and the last derby was so good and strong that she wondered if a 2-3 month derby would be good).

We used the whey to make ricotta, and got a pretty large yield. I love making home made ravioli, but it seems that Alison doesn't like how long it takes. We might just roll it up into ricotta balls and bake them like we have done in the past (they end up like nothing that you have ever had - A little bit like meatballs or tofu, but really they are just baked ricotta balls).

I have been 'stealing' the internet from various family members during my job hunt, but Friday of this week someone should come over to set up out home internet so that I won't have to do that forever.

On Sunday we went to grandma's house and ate dinner and played some games. Andrea got a new red umbrella and a balloon that was also red, and some valentines day candy.

Not the game that I am talking about
The game that we played while there was Dancing Robots. We played with the Grand Poobah judge (the one that takes bribes to give you extra awesomeness), and he dominated the game. One player (Kenneth) decided to sell his entire robot and got 27 awesomeness. Since three of the 6 players couldn't get anywhere near enough points to challenge him the game sort of devolved into a mad scramble to count up points, and the other two players found out that they tied for first. An elimination round occurred, and Daniel won with 35 points.

We decided that the Grand Poobah was a little too powerful (mainly because a degenerate Grand Poobah combo could easily score 21 points on the second turn and end the game before people could possibly build a working robot.) We have decided to limit the number of bribes that the Grand Poobah will take to three. This means that you can score 9 points from him total. This seems far less likely to devolve into a bribefest.

Finally, my new computer arrived (pun intended).
