The long and the short

On Tuesday Mike went to his first Board Game Design Guild meeting. He played a game, and had a fun time. Before he can join officially, he has to attend three meetings. They meet twice monthly, so hopefully he can get in enough meetings before the next Ion Award deadline to gain the benefit from joining it.

Sara's date night this week was delayed to Wednesday because of Mike's meeting. She ended up picking watching My Little Ponies as her date night.

The kids ended up with a lot of movies this week, because on Thursday Alison was feeling rather nauseous in the morning and canceled Forest Kindergarten to let the kids watch a movie while she took a nap. Three movies in one week is unusual for us, but they really enjoyed it. We also came up with the idea of bribing Timmy to stay in bed all night with the offer of a YouTube clip in the morning if he does. It's worked on about 50% of the nights this week. Mike is getting very tired of getting up with him.

While we were home on Thursday, a neighbor dropped off their dog so we could sit for it this weekend. We trade watching their dog when they go on vacation with them milking our goats when we're gone. Alison thinks we get the easier end of the deal, although Mike doesn't like dogs. We've had it since Thursday noon and will take it back tonight. Last time we watched it, it didn't eat for the entire three days; this time, it's already eaten all the food they sent us. Hopefully it's OK with no food until tonight. It's a nice little dog, maybe a Shih Tzu mix, and the kids really enjoy having it. Timmy has been following it around saying "Dog happy!"

Saturday marked the start of General Conference. We watched every session at home this time (we took so long getting dinner that Mike nearly missed the priesthood session, so he just watched it at home as the kids played in the front yard with the neighbor boy.) We had a good time, and found new things to work on.

During the first and last session of general conference we processed apples that we had been given by a neighbor. They were pretty big (even if they were also pretty wormy.) We have about two gallons of dried apples so far, and we still have a bunch of apples left. They won't last us all year (it takes about 10 gallons to do that), but we appreciate the free apples anyway.

After the first session of conference, we went to the nearby park to pick some grapes for an hour. Every year we pick a few and make some grape juice. We didn't pick all of the grapes there by any means, and we only made juice on Saturday, but we ended up with 8 quarts. That is pretty good, but we will probably go back for more at a later time so that we can lay up more juice.

After the second session of conference Mike unclogged the bathroom sink again. Having kids means being a part time plumber :).

Finally, Mike is thinking about building a computer to make a neural network to generate images for him. Here is his current part list. If anyone has a GeForce graphics card that they aren't using that they want to donate or sell cheap, talk to him. He would love to strike a bargain :). He has been considering making a computer for more than a year, so it probably won't happen very quickly, but he is thinking about taking advantage of Black Friday sales to make this more likely.
