Ashes, Ashes

We had another session of 42 Earths this weekend. They got on the bad side of Osiron (a interplanetary criminal syndicate similar to the mafia). They also decided to go to the seat of power of the LoW and talk to the senate about the alien menace. Perhaps the two events were connected somehow :). Xander is planning on building a space ship with a dimension hopping device it seems. I have a 10 player vassal module for Polynesia posted  here . The rules are posted here . If anyone wants to download it and test it out, I would appreciate it. I hope that the rules are written well enough that anyone can just read them and play the game. Andrea has started to like playing ring around the rosie. The only words she sings are "ashes, ashes" and "ashes, ashes" is her name for the game. She loves the falling down part the best. I have a character in UnNethack that is doing pretty well. She is a female vampire wizard who has raided fort ludios and is currently trying to

The heir and a bear

I put the last parts on the bike on Saturday - Unfortunately the exhaust pipe is slightly the wrong shape, and so the pedal arm hits it when the petal rotates. I am considering cutting and welding it into the right angle (though I might be able to fix it by just blow torching the tube and bending it) It is just barely broken - if I push hard, the petal will slide over it. If anyone has ideas, I am open to suggestions. We also cleaned out the purple room (it was full of bike stuff) We played some Kings in the Corner, (which seems to me to be a lot about what you draw, and only a little about skill), and a little Polynesia (in the game we played, there was also a lot of luck involved - I got 24 points by turn 2) on the card table. We played a game called '7 Wonders' at Bryson's house on Saturday as well. It was fun - Alison liked it (even though it was fairly strategic). We also played Guillotine - which was fun, and Polynesia. I think that everyone had a good time. I bro

Duck Blur?

Baby Andrea is getting better at jumping. She sometimes gets her feet off the ground now (which is an improvement). A new version of the Vassal module for Polynesia is available online  here . It is far from complete (If I worked hard I could include score tracking, good tracking, attacks, etc), and only for 4 players (I have not added all of the other cards yet - I intend to do that soon). Vassal is a free program that allows you to play board, card, and table top strategy games online. If anyone wants to test Polynesia for me - be my guest. The rules can be downloaded here , and viewed online here  (though the online viewing does not have my font with my special symbols, so it is a little inferior to the downloaded version.) If you have any questions, requests for clarification, or comments, send them to me. I read 'A Matter of Profit' yesterday. It was fun. It has been a long time since I read a book in one day (and though it was a young adult book I am still impressed t

The Whirlwind

I haven't written for three weeks... Life is like a hurricane. I made two more 2 lb cheeses - a gouda and a derby. Both seemed to go well - I suppose we will find out in a few months when they age properly. We went down to a local greengrocer before Christmas to get some green beans, and the cashier convinced us to buy some locally made pepperoni. It is very tasty. we have added it to our home made pizza (with fetazarella and our own tomato sauce (made from dried tomatoes that someone in our family grew - we dried tomatoes from a lot of sources this fall)) It ended up very good. Baby Andrea would say 'Pzz' (which is definitely pizza, and not please) and ask for more. She has also recently decided that everyone who is not visible to her at the moment is asleep. This can be amusing. If she is talking about someone who is asleep she will also hush people (hold her finger up and say shhh) and then sign sleep with a grave face (not that she is quiet herself). Here are some
