Ultrasound

We went to the doctors this morning, and got to see some pictures of the baby. The technician says that it is going to be a girl. Looking at the images, I couldn't tell (but that is what they were trained to do, so I will have to trust them.) This weekend we ate two oyster mushrooms from our mushroom log. Alison says that mushrooms do not do much for her, but the flavor of these ones was so good that she liked them a lot. On Saturday we also went to the park and cut some grape vine clippings. We planted some in buckets in our house, and all the rest in the back yard. Hopefully they will grow well. The power company sent some guys out to cut our tree last year, and the tree is obviously dying. It's bark is falling off, and it didn't grow very many leaves last year. I think that we will have to cut off the tall branches, and inoculate the stump with more oyster mushrooms (just to be sure). At least we will then get to eat the tree even if we can't enjoy its shade.

Shortbread Men

The other day we made some shortbread men. I think that shortbread should be eaten cold. I made a few root beer flavored ones (which ended up being only mildly flavored.) Andrea has been loving playing outside. She gives snow to the dog, and swings on her swing for a long time. Sometimes she climbs up the slide and slides down it (when she is brave). She has started to like going to bed (strangely enough). One day she even told us that it was bed time, climbed in to bed, and pulled the covers over herself. She will tell me to tuck her in, and then read her a story, then push my face to make me leave the room. We had briar come over on saturday (because heather and clancy were taking a class.) She was pretty good, and we had a fun time with her. She has grown so much since we saw her last. She loved being held, and andrea wanted to feed her all the time. My new calling as a ward mission leader is a time consuming thing. I have more meetings that I have ever had before. W

I reported a bug in Mozilla Firefox 5 years ago:  https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=301888  (Someone else had reported it before me, but I also reported it). I got an email today that said that someone finally posted a fix for it. Too bad I stopped using Firefox years ago as well, or perhaps I would be happy about the fix. A new version of dwarf fortress came out today as well... It is like they are trying to ruin my valentines day by making me play dwarf fortress on it :). A new version of Unnethack came out recently as well, but I haven't played it much. Over the weekend I made some modifications to the Mandelbrot Set Viewer - It now can support Hilbert Set color schemes (as well as any arbitrary color scheme that you want to enter into it one color at a time.) The file that I am going to provide with the executable will be a modified Hilbert color scheme where the first iteration spirals around the outside of the cube (perhaps black, red, yellow, green, cyan, blue

I has a noodle (not so great actually)

This weekend we had another session of 42 Earths. A new guy named Steve showed up and played as an accountant that had been assigned to Department 7 by the league. The team was called on a mission to deal with some aliens that were in a warehouse. Though Zhengi was not originally using lethal force, the aliens shot him - nearly killing him - and after that he started throwing grenades. Speaking of near death experiences - I had a guy try to kill me this morning. He turned left in front of me. I am mostly fine - I was able to hit the pavement instead of his car, and I just scratched up my hand instead of breaking bones. Bike riding can be dangerous.  On Monday we made whole wheat pizza with home grown tomato sauce and locally produced pepperoni. It was tasty. We also made a cauliflower, chickpea and curry pizza which was very good as well. Andrea is getting into everything recently. She has been quite humorous at times. She decided to kiss our chicken picture the other day (she

Calling all junk food!

Andrea is getting four more teeth. She seems to want to bite things all the time now. She loves the song "He's got the whole world in his hands" (which she invented a sign for - Baby, and then hand) This week I have been really lazy. We made cookies last weekend, and then I got some meals for the missionaries on Monday, (we are feeding them and a Georgian guy tonight because we finally found a translator that speaks Georgian.) We have been making frybread a lot recently - I don't know how the dough is made, but we flatten it, and then fry it on a skillet. It turns out very tasty - sweet or salt (depending on what is sprinkled over it.) I have had a bit of a sweet tooth recently, so it is nice that I can satiate that urge with whole wheat bread. Speaking of sweet breads, (meaning breads that are sweet, not the other thing), Alison found a super tasty pancake recipe. It makes pancakes that taste vaguely like french bread. They are great off the griddle, or cold. P
