Is Cyclopes Really the Plural of Cyclops?
Apparently, we are horrible at writing blog posts right now. I guess that we need to find a new time to write them as we keep having things after church on Sunday, and so they always fail to get written.
Now - to try and remember the last few weeks:
On the 27th we saw Macbeth at the historic draper theater - it was pretty fun. They used a post-apocalyptic setting so that everyone could dress in steampunk styles. They also abridged the original play slightly, and they did an awesome job; we could only recognize a few spots where they'd cut things. It was a great performance.
On the 29th we opened up our winter clothes and started putting away our summer clothes. The kids have enough warm clothes for a few days now, which was good because it suddenly got cold. We don't normally have to turn on the heater in September!
On the 3rd Mike went to BGDG.
On the 5th we drove to Reno to visit the Poulsons while Mike went on a business trip. We had a fun trip and did a lot of things.
We watched General Conference with them. Alison enjoyed it a lot; Mike felt like he couldn't listen with the kids making noise, so he's listening to it again to try and get more out of it. After Conference, we went on a few hikes up at lake Tahoe. The kids enjoyed it. Mike found a cave we could climb in, and we sang lots of songs and found a giant crawdad.
Mike went from Monday to Friday of last week to Schaumberg Illinois for a work trip (in order to get to know his new team members.)
While Mike was gone, Grandma Julie and Alison and the kids checked out a Children's Discovery Museum in downtown Reno. It turns out to be reciprocating with the Natural History Museum here in Utah, so we got in for almost free! We had a wonderful time. There was a cloud tower to climb (pretending to be a water droplet), a huge water table representing Nevada's major bodies of water, a space room with rockets to build and a pretty cool game, and a room with tons of logic puzzles. Oh, and an airplane:
Then we all got colds. Alison was very grateful to be at Grandma's house, because at home we would have spent the entire week watching movies and eating Top Ramen. (And Alison doesn't even like ramen!) Instead, we walked around the lake by Grandma's house and carved pumpkins with Grandpa.
On Friday, we went on a train ride to see Virginia City, Reno. We learned a lot about steam trains and the history of Nevada from the conductor's stories and the books we read. Mike flew in to the airport about the time we got on the train, so Grandma picked him up and drove up to meet Grandpa, Alison, and the kids when they got off the train. We had a lot of fun.
Rea's birthday was last Tuesday. She got face paint, binoculars, and a book light. We had key lime pie and opened presents before we left for Reno, and then had a gorgeous cake in Reno on her real birthday. Rea and Grandma Julie made the cake from one of Grandma Sheila's recipes. Yum!

We are reading "Tales from the Odyssey" and used face paint to be cyclopes. |
