Blarg!

We did a lot of engineering for school this week. The kids' project was to make a car that went down a ramp and hit a wall at the bottom while keeping a LEGO person safe. They came up with different solutions: Timmy took all the wheels off his car and slid it down the ramp, Sara put a wheel in the back perpendicular to the axle to drag behind, and Rea made a pad in front to dissipate the impact. They all worked very well. We watched some Bill Nye physics videos and explained what was happening in terms of inertia and friction.

The kids had so much fun that they kept going and built boats. Then Alison pulled out the next engineering project on her list and had them start building cable cars. They really like that idea and had fun with the first iterations. We'll be working on this project for a few weeks.

For Young Women's and Activity Days this week, Rea painted and Sara drew. They made beautiful pictures and had a lot of fun.

Alison got sick with a nasty cold this week. It was pretty challenging to do school while lying in bed all the time, but we managed. Mike took care of all the housework as well as taking care of the kids all the time that he was out of work. After three or four days of sleeping most of the time, she's finally feeling better today.

On Friday we got the furniture risers to put the dog crate under the front room table. The crate turned out to be taller than the seller had claimed, so the furniture risers weren't tall enough. Mike cut wood to the right size to raise them another few inches, so now the table is a very exciting height to the kids and the dog has a nice place to hide when the kids get to be too much.

On Saturday, Grandpa Poulson picked up the kids to go to Daybreak's winter festival. Mike did homework for hours and Alison slept, which was really good for both of us, and the kids had a wonderful time. It was very nice of the grandparents.

Speaking of Mike's homework: he has a lot of it. Blarg!

P.S. We just remembered that this week we also had eggs almost every day for dinner. The kids all complained until they had eaten their first bite, and then they enjoyed them. We had omelettes, hash-brown casserole, breakfast burritos, german pancakes, and quiche.
