Another Week Late

Oops, we forgot to hit post on this last week. 😬

We didn't post last week because of Saltcon. This time we attended it for all four days, and we had a fun time. Mike's parents watched the dog for us, so he wasn't sad while we went away from him for multiple days. That being said, he was happy to see us when we came back home.

One event of note was that when we packed the car we forgot to pack our board games that we were planning on trading at the convention, so after arriving there we had to drive all the way back home to get them.

We were fortunate to be listening to a fun audiobook on the drive, so the kids were happy to triple the length of the drive so that they could hear more. The audiobook was named Mister Monday, and is about a boy who gets a magic clock minute-hand, gets transported into a huge magical house and has to figure out how to get back home and stop a plague from killing everyone in his hometown.

The math trade went well for Mike this year - he got 8ish new games, and traded away ones that we don't play a lot. The game that he is  most excited to have gotten from the trade was som eexpansions for Legendary - which is a deck builder that Mike and Alison both enjoy a lot. We played a game with the new expansions this Friday and really enjoyed them. We were losing until Mike ended up making some crazy Hail-Mary play and defeating the boss in one turn using silver surfer and mister fantastic. Every thing about the new cards seems to be cooler than the old ones - the artwork is better, the characters have more strategic nuance, the bad guys are harder, and the schemes really impact the game a lot.

We need to set up a game day sometime soon to get it played with other people.

The kids had a lot of fun at Salt Con. They went swimming every day, we gave them $10 to spend in the vendor hall, they enjoyed the continental breakfast. They enjoyed watching movies every night in the hotel room, and they also played a lot of fun games.

We signed up for Artemis (which is a Star Trek bridge simulation game), and we really had a fun time fighting various aliens, and flying around.

Alison and Mike liked playing Potion Explosion - which we had never played before. It had a fun toy as part of the game, which randomized marbles and the game was all about taking the marbles out of the machine in particular orders. It was fun and strategic.

We also played Telestrations, which was very fun for all of us except Booey. We should get a copy of that one.

Gideon checked out Rampage one time, and we enjoyed building and smashing down the city. Timmy also checked out Star Wars Legions (or something like that) and so Timmy and Gideon had fun making up rules for it.

The kids also got Dragdomino, which was fun because they are all into the Wings of Fire series right now. They also all enjoyed playing Jaipur, (Alison and Mike liked that one as well - it is simple, but with deep strategy - sort of like Splendour. We liked it so much that we got a copy of it.

Mike participated in the North West US Coup tournament, and made the semi-finals, but lost in the second to last game, so his having played coup tons when he worked at Contacts apparently came in sort of handy, but was not enough for the big time.

Since SaltCon ended Mike has been trying to get ahead of his school work again. He had to work super hard to get to the point where the convention wouldn't sink him, and now he is trying to get back to normal. He had to take all of Saturday to get things done, so he didn't do anything fun then.

On Saturday Alison and the Kids went with the Poulson family to Thanksgiving Point.

Rea had a young womens' charity dinner on Satrurday night, which Mike and Rea went to. They sold a taco dinner for $5 and the girls all made cookies and offered babysitting and house cleaning and services like that in a silent auction. Mike ended up spending $46 at the auction so that everything would have at least one bidder on it. We came home with some blueberry lemon pies, jalapeno jelly, cookies, and some coupons for dog sitting and dog walking. It was fun.

The kids got leprechaun coins for finding this shamrock at Thanksgiving Point.
