Daddy Bigfeets, The Heist, and the Week of Gruel
Two weeks ago it was spring break and we organized lots of playdates for the kids.
Timmy larped twice: once at Dimitri's house with Sally and Gideon and Momo and kind of Dimitri. Sally was a wizard Momo was a barbarian Gideon was a rogue and Timmy was the dungeon master. They fought some goblins and freed a city from an evil goblin. They also went to the Rogers house and larped there.
During the whole time, Timmy has been playing his dinosaur game a lot and has enjoyed it a lot.
Also two weeks ago they got the digging done for putting in a new foundation for the garage and master bedroom.
Alison also started organized simplicity and cleaned about one room a day in Grandpa Mike and Grandma Sheila's basement. It looks super good now that she is done with all of it. She rearranged the main room and our bedroom to make them much more efficiently positioned. We also moved the carpet rug thing on the floor, so hopefully the new location will work out.
Mike and Alison also played the first session of our Lord of the rings RPG game. Mike's character "Daddy Bigfeets" lied a lot and tried to get a map to a treasure from some thugs while Alison's character helped him out and protected him. We weren't making much progress, but eventually Becky came in and used money to solve all the problems (by buying the map off of them), so it was a fun first session.
Elsa has also been practicing riding her balance bike around. She is getting really good at it.
We also saw Frozen Jr on that Friday at the waters School. They did a good job and sang very well and acted well as well.
The Saturday and Sunday of that week we watched general conference. It was good. The kids were very well behaved and there were good talks.
One week ago Mike took off from work to help Grandpa Mike rip the roof off of the house. They took 6 days to do it, and the work was grueling (in fact, it was a veritable week of gruel), however, by the end of the week the roof was removed from the front section of the house, and the roofing material was also removed from the top section. It was successful, and no-one died, however, it was also very tiring.
At the same time, the construction workers poured all of the footings and foundation for the addition, so they are doing work too.
We always enjoy doing various easter activities, and this last week we did all of our Easter things
On Sunday we played the Triumphal entry with donkey game, where the kids spread blankets on the ground to keep a donkey (Sara this time, since Mike was so sore) with a person riding on it (Elsa) protected from the carpet so that they can travel across a room safely. The kids have fun trying to keep the way paved in front of the donkey, and they were successful this year. Since there is no staircase in the path (like we usually have), it was a bit easier.
On Monday we had nature group. Marissa came over and we all did clean up your own backyard to celebrate the cleansing of the temple.
On Tuesday we had teen group, played outside, and watched the Prince of Egypt.
On Wednesday we baked personal flatbread pizzas and the girls did a service activity for young women. As part of it, Réa transplanted grape hyacinths into our yard. For activity dudes the boys had a fire. They all enjoyed it, however, they all wanted to have had marshmallows instead of hot dogs.Timmy decided to make his pizza into a pie (as you can see in the picture to the right)
On Thursday we had a fire and sang Gethsemane. We cooked hotdogs on the fire and also peep smores,. After that was done we went to see Sara acting in Seussical, which her school was putting on. She went for a minor role this time, however, the play was very good.
On Friday we went on an Easter Walk, and then we saw Sara's play again. Afterward Grandma Julie took us and the Rogers kids out to ice cream.
Sautrday we had an egg hunt with the Waters. After that we played with Waters all day. In the evening Tim was climbing in the tree and fell out and hurt his foot.
Also Saturday Réa broke into the room where all our stuff is stored in the Water's house and tried to access the RPG books that Mike has (though she wasn't successful in finding them). She got into the room by climbing through a skylight, but she got stuck in the room, so they had to lower a step stool down on a rope to get her out, and then they were able to pull the step stool back out with the rope.
It was the perfect crime, except that Sister Waters walked in on them and caught them, so it ended up being less-than-perfect in actuality.
Sunday we had planned to have our traditional Easter Feast (funeral potatoes, tomb ham wrapped asparagus, and a lamb cake with resurrection rolls), however, when we made the lamb cake (a angel food cake) it tore off of the pan when we flopped it upside down. Perhaps it was a bit undercooked?
We also ran out of time for the resurrection rolls, since we were invited to Grandma Julie's house to play with the Rogers again. Tim's foot was still hurting, and he was not walking, so it was mostly boring for him. We are going to go today to the hospital because we are not sure if he broke it or not.
At some point un the week Réa made a flower printed head scarf, which she made by squishing some grape hyacynths that she picked on Wednesday. It looks really cool.
Also some time in the week Mike found some TVs and bed frames in someone's garbage and brought them home. One of the Tvs ended up working and only having minor damage, so we might just have a 42 inch tv somewhere in our house when we get back home.
In other news, the construction is proceeding on our house further this week: they filled in the holes, prepared soil and poured gravel for flat work in the garage. It looks really good, and they say that they will be able to frame it in a week and a half. So far they have been pretty darn good with their estimates, so even though that seems fast we are hopeful that they will be able to do it.
