Last Sunday we celebrated Elsa's birthday party because the older kids would be gone on her actual birthday. She got a doll, a huge squish-mallow, a bike, some clothes for her doll, and a few other gifts. She had fruit pizza and ice cream for her meal, which came out pretty good. Overall it was a fun birthday for her.
On Monday Rea, Sara, and Tim went to Trek. They had a fun time, and were all safe and healthy. The weather was fairly mild, and they all wore enough sun-screen that they didn't get sun burnt.
Also on Monday we took Rocket to the vet because he had been acting very lethargic and not eating or drinking. The vet took some blood samples and told us that he had diabetes. He prescribed insulin, and said that we needed to get some food in him, and then give him the insulin.
We took him home and then tried to get him to eat. On Monday night he finally ate some food so we gave him the insulin and everyone went to bed except for Alison, who stayed up with him. When Mike woke up in the morning, Rocket was still not doing well, and Mike sent Alison to bed and decided to take the day off from work in order to help out, however, at around 4:30AM Rocket died.Mike, Gideon, and Elsa dug him a grave during the day, and in the evening the older kids came home from Trek, and we cried for a while, and then had a funeral for him. He is buried right in front of the choke cherry bush.
He was a very good dog, and we are all sad that he is gone. Some of us are wanting to get another dog immediately, but the wiser heads are prevailing and we are going to wait a while.
The kids requested not having anyone say "We're so sorry Rocket died" or any other kind remarks right now; they just don't want to talk about it at all. We miss him a lot.
Thursday was Timmy's birthday. We were all still a little bit sad about Rocket, however, we still had his party. He got a gorgeous glass-and-mirrors corner display case for his knickknacks, some Hollow Knight toys, and Rea made him some maps of the two continents from the Wings of Fire series on cloth scrolls in a scroll case.
On Friday we had the day off for Juneteenth, so we went to the aquarium with the Brown's extended family, and we also had a pizza and movie night. Both events were very fun. It was good that everyone could all get together (we even had Sheila and Petra, since they were in the town). It is moderately rare that we all get together - even if a lot of us live pretty close now-a-days.
Saturday morning the girls were all invited to Strawberry Days, which is a parade apparently. They had fun watching the parade, and spending time with their cousins. While they were doing that Mike and the boys declared it to be "Man Time" at home, and we ate ice cream, cleaned and rearranged the play room, and then played smash brothers once we were done. It was pretty fun as well, and we are now enjoying the new set-up.
We originally planned a Juneteenth meal on Saturday, but with all the family get-togethers, we had to move it to Saturday, so we ate baked beans, lots of red foods, and also chocolate ice cream. It was fun.
