At Some Lovely Birthday Party for Some Lovely Mom

All last weekend we celebrated Alison's 30th birthday. Friday night we went out for Thai food, and on Saturday night we went to a triple birthday party at our church. Sunday we opened up presents. Alison got nice salt and pepper grinders, a fiction book that she wanted, and a Pyrex storage set (which was her favorite gift).

On Monday we invited people over for a Memorial Day barbecue. We had five attendees (including baby Ellie). We tried charcoal, but it took forever. We ended up using a George Foreman to finish everything off.

During the barbecue Scott and I assembled a new 3D printer that we bought together. We got it put together and printed up some things. The first few prints were not very good, but over the last week I have been improving my printing skills, and I can now make any number of cats with ease.

On Thursday and Friday Scott and I attended Google IO Extended. A new version of Polymer was just released, and Google just announced that they are allowing people to store photos up to 2048x2048 for free (which means that most of your photos are now free). I got a google cardboard (which is a piece of cardboard that turns your phone into a virtual reality headset), and had a fun time.

Saturday we went to the Sumsion family reunion at the old Sumsion ranch up Hobble Creek canyon. It was great fun. There were horses for the kids to have pony rides (Sara went twice, Rea only once) and a barbecue and lots of delicious food. We talked to family members and Rea joined a kids' club with a secret hideout across the creek under a pine tree. We hiked around the pasture and enjoyed how beautiful it was up the canyon. Everyone had a good time, and we started talking about ways to go live in nature like that.

Saturday night, we went to a stake talent show. Mike volunteered to fill a table with his board games, so all week he's been working to make good-looking playing pieces and tokens for his games with the 3D printer. He finished painting them just as he was supposed to leave to set up his table; they turned out looking good.

Today Mike and Alison gave talks on "The Purpose of Mortality." Preach My Gospel says that our purpose in this life is to have joy and return to live with God again, so Alison talked about having joy and Mike talked about repentance and righteousness. We got lots of compliments, so it must have struck a chord with people.
