Something Title-ish
This last week began with sicknesses. Alison stayed home from Church due to feelings of nausea. Alison says that the primary leaders say that Mike does a very good job as a substitute music leader. I will poll the children next time I sub to see if this is true.
By evening Alison thought that her sickness was caused by too much cake, so we went to the Poulson family for a Poulson/Brown family dinner. It was awesome. But that night, Rea started throwing up, and threw up all the next day. Sara then started throwing up that night. So if we infected your kids with some throwing-up disease, we apologize.
We had planned to do Twelve Days of Christmas activities from Christmas Day until Three Kings Day (January 5th), but the sickness messed with some of the plans. We ended up with multiple Movie Days of Christmas. Rea and Sara were really excited on Tuesday, when they found that Mommy had checked out "Frozen" from the library. The kids have experienced branded Frozen dolls and costumes from the DI and knew the plot from library books and coloring books, but they'd never seen the movie, so it was quite a treat. Sara quite enjoyed it; it was mostly too scary for Rea, but they were both happy that they'd watched it and loved playing that they were princesses that could create ice skating rinks.
On Wednesday, Mike submitted four games for the Ion awards. The artwork is all finalized and looks really nice, and we spend many hours going over rule documents, so we are very hopeful of his chances.
Thursday was the annual Poulson New Year's Eve party. We went up early to see the Treehouse Museum's countdown to noon. There was an advertised magic show that Rea was really excited for, but by the time we got there all the seats were taken. It was too bad, but we still had fun playing. At the New Year's Eve party, we of course played the candy bar game, which Rea is almost old enough to play by herself (she can do everything required but not fast enough without prompting). And we had the talent show. Timmy started the evening by spinning in circles and doing somersaults when Mommy pushed him over. He loved the applause and tried to get up and do more talents whenever there was a pause. Then Sara stood on one foot and did other yoga poses, and Rea made two different fish out of modeling clay. Alison was planning to show off her cool math blocks, but she decided that would be too boring, so she balanced a stuffed reindeer on her head for most of the evening as her talent. And Mike passed around two cheeses, a 3 month mild washed curd (Havartiesque) and a 9 month sharp milled curd (Cheddarish). It was very fun. The evening ended with all the (adult) girl cousins singing karaoke to "Hit Me Baby One More Time," which Alison found surprisingly enjoyable.
Friday we planned our annual New Year's Day Game Day. We invited four families from our ward and various family members. Unfortunately, no one could make it. All the ward people ended up with other commitments (we just made casual invites during the ward party) and all the family had sick kids. That was disappointing, but on the up side, we now have tons of soup frozen for meals next time we need them.
Saturday we tried to make another cheddar. Unfortunately, it failed because the curds were too hot for too long and the curd didn't knit when pressed. Now we have a whole gallon of those squeaky cheese curds that are so popular. We'll have to see if our kids like them as snacks. Or use them as filling for rolls. That might work well.
Sunday was our first day of 11:00 church. It was nice to have time to bathe everyone before church, but Timmy was ready for a nap by halfway through sacrament meeting. (Of course, he was often ready for a nap halfway through sacrament meeting with the 9:00 meeting time, so maybe it's just something he does at church.) He did make it to most of nursery, however, and is learning new words from his time there (most notably "Me! Me!"). It was Sara's first day of Sunbeams, and she was so, so excited to be part of the big kid Primary with Rea. Rea is now in the oldest class in our Junior Primary, so she feels very mature. It was a fun day to mark how much they've all grown.
(We have had too many late nights and our creativity is not up to coming up with a title, so that's where "Something Title-ish" came from.)
