A nugget baby and the Stud of a Goat

This week Clarabelle was clearly in heat, so we arranged to take her over to the stud. Unfortunately, the only time the stud's owner could do it was in the middle of the afternoon, and it ended up being Alison's worst day of morning sickness ever, so Mike had to leave work and do it. We decided that now his boss can add to the lists of "strangest reasons my employees have asked for time off."

Clarabelle was gone for a few days and Lala was very noisy without her. Alison felt better the other days and took the kids to the library and to her mom's house, so they were happy. Alison was even well enough to pick up the goat on Thursday. It was a good thing she felt good that day, because the owner of the stud was over an hour late. Luckily another woman showed us her baby goats and the baby pigs, so the kids had fun. The goats are glad to be home together.

Thursday we were packing to leave for a trip and we noticed that a robin was building a nest in our ornamental cherry tree. The kids are really excited to have baby birds in our tree this year.

Friday Mike took the day off so that we could go camping in St George with his extended family. It was a long drive, but we all had a good time. We listened to "Dealing with Dragons" on the way down (we decided that princesses, dragons, and witty writing added up to a book everyone would enjoy) and "Searching for Dragons" on the way back home.

We took a tent for the kids and our hammock stand and hammock for ourselves, since there was no chance of rain. The hammock stand was very popular with all of the kids. We actually set up two hammocks on it bunk-bed style, and they loved climbing up and down and playing in them. Hammocks are much more comfortable to sleep in than tents. Unfortunately, no one got much sleep that night because the wind was crazy. One tent broke and at least two others blew over, and Sara screamed for Daddy every time the wind got high because she was afraid she would blow away.

We had packed a larger tent in case it did rain or something, so when the tent broke we had an extra pole that could be used to help fix it.

So we didn't get much sleep that night and it was rough. We went on a short hike the next morning and collected Moqui Marbles, and then Grandpa Mike took us to Dairy Queen. The girls were invited to a birthday party at 6 that night, so we packed up and went home after that. It was a long drive and right at the end a semi overturned and completely blocked the freeway, stopping us dead. Not fun. The girls were only 15 minutes late for the party, though, so we did well. They had a wonderful time and brought home way too much candy. We confiscated it and are planning to dole it out when they clean up their toys.

Today we all managed to go to Church! It's the first time in a while. Timmy slept through nursery, but we all were there for all three hours. Maybe the season of sickness is at its end.

Our lilacs are in bloom, so we're considering making lilac jelly again. That might be fun. Or dandelion anything.

P.S. This week Sara said "Daddy, you're just a nugget baby."
