Lady and the tramp spaghetti
This week Mike has been working hard to fulfill the rewards for his Kickstarter campaign. The new colors that some people ordered came in on Friday, so he printed the last of the rewards and sent them off on Saturday - except for one person who hasn't actually told Mike which size of windows he wants in his counters. When that person gets around to answering, we'll print and be done! We're glad to get it done so quickly and to have time to spend on other things. (Note - as we were composing this, he told Mike what he wanted, so the last counters are being printed at the moment and we will be done Monday, when the post office is open.)
Thursday Alison and the kids spent all day at the park, playing on the playground, eating a picnic lunch, and swimming in the pool. They went to the pool four times this week, and everyone's swimming is continuing to progress. They are really enjoying their pool passes and the time they spend outside. And still no sunburns!
Thursday evening Mike babysat for Logan and Dustin alone, while Alison went off to Relief Society. Alison had a lot of fun and the kids were all very good for Mike - he had no trouble taking care of five kids under the age of five. Rea loves to have friends and cousins come over.
Friday Grandpa Craig and Grandma Julie were camping in Big Cottonwood Canyon, so Alison took the kids up to join them for the day, and Mike came up after work. During the day, they hiked from the campsite to Donut Falls. Both girls walked the entire way; they were very impressive hikers! Alison was very proud of them, especially Sara. Alison is also fairly proud of herself for carrying Timmy on her back for a very a long way. Then when Mike came up we had hot dogs and s'mores cooked over the fire. It was an excellent day.
First thing Saturday morning, we packed up and drove down to Highland to help Grandpa Mike and Grandma Sheila move. Their ward packed up their whole house Friday night, so we just helped move the stuff from their storage unit (along with one family from their ward). Mike moved a whole lot of heavy rocks. Alison mostly helped with the furniture. The kids were very good, playing in the van out of our way in the storage unit parking lot. They watched a movie and played happily, so both parents could help. It was done by noon, and we said goodbye to Grandma and Grandpa. We are eager to go visit them in their new house for Labor Day.
While we were moving things, someone we'd asked about buying hay last year texted and asked if we wanted some. It never worked out to buy from him last year, but this year he was really on the ball and brought 40 bales of hay to our house and stacked them in the carport for us for $10 a bale. So now we have a full year's supply of hay for our goats, with very little effort on our part.
Sunday was Sara's third birthday. Happy Birthday, Sara! She wanted to go to a restaurant and have spaghetti and meatballs (like in Lady and the Tramp), so Saturday night we went to a place near us called Smoky Mountain Pizzeria Grill. We got to sit outside (it is SO much easier to try to teach kids restaurant manners outside, where there's a little more room and noise is less annoying to neighbors) and the kids loved their kids' meals of spaghetti and meatballs and Teddy Grahams. Mike had spicy chicken pasta and Alison had Primavera vegetable pizza with a garlic sauce. It was all very good and the employees were nice. The girls tried hard to behave, but Timmy was difficult. The one thing he did like was to be walked over to signs on the wall and have them read to him - he would smile and point and say, "Book! Book!" as we read it over and over. (I have no idea what was so interesting about "Please see hostess inside to be seated on the patio," but it was the only thing that made him smile about the restaurant.)
Sara's favorite birthday present was a bubble blower gun and we had an angel food cake for her birthday cake. When asked if it was fun Sara frowned, shook her said and then said "yes". I asked her about if it was fun again and she still said yes, so she must mean it?
Either way, we enjoyed it.
Finally, Timmy tried this week to walk a few times. Perhaps he will be walking soon. We played the game with him a bit to encourage him.
