She eats a pie a day - oh wait that's me - but anyway

Last week we forgot to post a blog post, so this will cover both weeks.

Last Tuesday Mike ran a 5k. It was the first time in a long time that he has run at all. His feet hurt afterward, but he got a big mug as a reward. It seems like a beer mug. We are not sure what this is supposed to teach us.

The kids and Alison are going to the pool all the time now, and because of this they are getting tanned. They still apply sunblock liberally (our sun block makes you look sort of vampireish, and it keeps you from getting burned, but still you get tanned). All the kids are really brave. Rea has started to dive from the diving boards head first, Sara is putting her head under as she swims, Timmy is coming off the steps, and Gideon is crawling on the steps.

On Saturday we went strawberry hunting, and got a lot of berries. There were also gooseberries too. The girls picked the box on the right by themselves, and Alison picked the box on the left. Gideon is holding Mike's box. Timmy and Gideon were only interested in eating the berries, so they didn't get any to bring home.

Sunday was father's day, so we had a quiche and strawberry pie for dinner. It was fun.

On Monday Timmy had his 4th birthday. For his treat he had a multi-berry pie. It was made from strawberries, gooseberries, raspberries, and blackberries with home made graham cracker crust and homemade blue raspberry filling.

Timmy got a Train set, deer, buffalo, a bug catching kit, a pirate penguin game, a wild kratts dvd, and the aforementioned pie. Timmy loved everything.
On Wednesday we picked more strawberries and gooseberries.

On Thursday Mike went to the humane society because his new job pays him to do service periodically.  He sorted laundry, petted the cats, and came home early.

On Saturday we went swimming as a family. It was very fun for every except for Sara. Timmy got stung by a bee while we were swimming. Apparently bees do not like to swim. We splashed the bee out of the pool, and it fell down a drain.

Mike was feeling hungry after swimming, so he made muffins and bacon and hashbrowns and a chocolate mint pie with oreo crust. After dinner no-one was hungry. We have finally come up with a good goat milk pudding recipe:

Bring 3 cups goat milk and 1/3 cup sugar to a boil. Reduce heat to simmer and add 1 cup milk with 1/3 cup of cornstarch mixed in. Stir constantly until thickened. Add in flavorings (1 tsp mint extract + 3 tsp vanilla extract + 1/2 cup chocolate chips in our case). Mix, then chill.
